I haven't posted in years but.........

I am compelled to tell somebody about the complete cock up at work tonight.
I work at a major regional theater. We are rehearsal for a HUGE musical.
It's an outside production. This show has played several places
in Europe but is making it's state side debut with us.

It is full of special effects and stunts. There is lots of pyro.
Well tonight nobody told the pyro guys that our leading actor
was exiting right next to a pyro pot. He actually caught on fire.
The good news is that he was wearing lots of wool clothing that
protected his body. The only burns he got were small ones on the
back of his hands.

There is nothing that scares me more than an actor laid out
flat on the deck. I did my part and held his burned hands while
we waited for the paramedics. But I couldn't be more angry.
It just isn't worth the effects if people are getting hurt.

Now I have to take a little "medicinal" liquor and try to get some sleep.

Writer's Block: Jumped the shark

Which television show continues to get worse every season and should just get cancelled already?

Supernatural, please!

Merry White Christmas!

All evidence to the contrary, I am still among the living.

We finished up the annual death march known as Christmas Carol last night.
The hubby and I have just finished our tiny feast. The dogs are squeaking their new toys.

And today, there is snow in Atlanta for the first time in one hundred and twenty eight years!

Happy holidays to everyone.

I can't believe it!

Hulu is showing one of my favorite cult UK TV shows!
Ultraviolet is available now. Don't miss this one.
It has everything a urban scifi series should have.

Jack Davenport , Stephen Moyer AND Idris Elba
all appear in a cool creepy near future London.
I'm not going to give away the twist but, trust me, you will like it

Happy Birthday to you Lomer!

Enjoy yourself , please.

Happy Birthday SimplyStars!

Hope your day is fabulous. Best health and many more to come!

O, thank God. My crazy ass show is back!

True Blood is back baby! And it is just as wacked out as ever. I know it is trash , but it's unashamed trash.
And now that I can see it all in HD glory I can truly appreciate the efforts of the special effects crew.
spoiler plot stuffCollapse )

In other news I am posting with one side of my face lower than the other.
My dentist REALLY believes in the novocaine. It will be hours till I can chew again.

Yeah I'm still here.

I haven't posted in a while , but I have been reading of everyone's adventures with great interest.

R and I made a fast trip home to see the new and existing great nephews. There is quite a variety now.
We have a 4 year old, a 1 year old and a 5 month old . My step great niece is 9 years old and having
a grand time being "mommy" to them all.
It is fun to swan in, see everyone and go home.

I've done and closed another show. It was my last of the season. The cast was nice and low key.
So I was able to leave with a good one.

There have been lots of shake ups at work. The economy has affected us too. Our kick ass
end of the season musical was cancelled. It was to be one of those debuts that goes on to New York.
Well , the producers couldn't get the backing to do it . So we were left with a massive last minute hole in our season.
We ended up reviving a small musical from last season. No one knows how that will go.

The upshot of all this is that all year round staff will be taking pay cuts. And six people were let go 2 weeks ago.
There will be fewer shows next year as well . So we seasonal employees will also be making less.
In my case , not so much less. But still it does hurt us all.

But I am spending the extra off weeks doing some free lance work. I have finally decided to pimp myself out as a
seamstress for hire. So far I have some sci- fi related costume projects on the way.
And this week I got a call to work on a Lifetime Network TV series. ( for some very nice cash)
The lesson here is to get off my rear and be proactive. I'm glad I did!

The other fun thing I have going is my new technology. I have maintained my status in the cult of Steve
by getting an iphone. It is so addictive that it scares me a little. I spent my backstage downtime during the
last show reading fan fiction on my phone. It is faster to check the weather by iphone app than by computer!
I look forward to teach it and myself lots of new tricks.

Behind the Drama

There has been much going on with me . I spent almost 3 weeks with the Big Honking Musical.
Tech rehearsal week alone was 71.25 hours. So there has been much overtime and rejoicing.
It is a Gospel version of" Jesus Christ Superstar" It is huge in every way. It has a HUGE cast,
(59 people ) , HUGE set with lots of automated moving set pieces, and a the biggest sound console I have ever seen.
It has the blessing of the powers that be in London. In fact, both Tim RIce and Mr Lloyd Webber
have flown over to see it and both gave it thumbs up!

It looks great but the work load on every one is intense. The sound team has microphones on 38 people and a 10 piece band.
Nearly every cast member is wearing solid white so wardrobe is in stain removal hell. There are so many people in the show that we ran out of
dressing rooms. The 29 person choir has to make do with temporary dressing areas that have to be cleared every night.
And , of course, the computer controls for the set and sound have each gone down for a few desperate minutes (or hours).
But , it spite of all the crazy, it is a amazing show. It looks as though it will have a life beyond this production.
Since we are producing partners, we could make a cut of the profit.
Here's hoping it plays forever.

I worked through opening then trained my replacement and moved to open the next show.
This one is the winner of our Graduate Student Playwriting Competition. I went from crazy large show to
manageable and cozy one. I only feel a little guilty. I have just six cast members in a ninety minute comedy.

But we have had our own little dramas. Last Saturday one of the actors had to rush home. There was a family emergency.
So our understudy was called in for the next day. She got the message on her phone while out to dinner with her
boyfriend. Shortly after they were robbed at gunpoint while going to their car. The poor girl got 3 hours of sleep before
coming in to a fast run through , costume fitting, and a two show day!

In two weeks both shows will be history. It is a wacky way to make a living.
